Join Friends of Midtown on Saturday, January 11, for a local lunch. We will continue to promote the support of small businesses throughout the year by having lunch on a Saturday each month at a different location. Café 1500 is our next stop. The event will take place from noon to 2:00 p.m. Lunch is on your own, but amongst the company of your neighbors and Friends of Midtown. Café 1500 is located at 1500 N. 6th Street. Neighborhood revitalization is a fun and inspiring thing—this mantra drives FOM’s Events Committee. Whether it’s events that celebrate the arts, creative fundraisers, support of 3rd in the Burg, or socials open to current and prospective members, we enhance the cultural life of Midtown as an enjoyable place to live or visit!
At the last Events Committee meeting, we planned for the annual meeting, which took place on January 24. Thanks to all who attended.
At the next meeting at 6:00 p.m. in the second floor pews of the Midtown Scholar (1302 N. 3rd St.), we’ll discuss the March 15 spring social at the Historic Harrisburg Resource Center as well as look ahead to our June event at the Sunken Gardens.

Volunteers have spent countless hours over the past few years cleaning up Midtown.Friends of Midtown’s Beautification Committee is looking to keep these projects ongoing and are looking for your help to achieve these goals.
We will be discussing scheduling dates for the 2013 committee projects, our partnership with the Green Urban Initiative, and consideration of incorporating TreeVitalize Initiative.
Since TreeVitalize launched in 2004, over 20,000 trees have been planted in urban areas across the state providing additional green space.
If you are interested in learning more about our goals or wish to participate in this year’s projects, the next Beautification Committee meeting in the second floor pews of the Midtown Scholar (1302 N. 3rd St.) at 6:15 p.m.
The FOM Citizen Safety Committee will be holding a meeting on February 4, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. at State on Herr, (268 Herr Street.)
We want to hear from neighborhood residents about how we as a community can take a more proactive approach and concerted role in making Midtown a safer place.
Wow! Where does the time go? It’s already that time of year again . . . for the Friends of Midtown Annual Meeting. Join Events Committee co-chairs Leigh Ann Urban and Jamie Lemon for the first Events Committee meeting of 2013 on January 16, 6:00 p.m. at the Midtown Scholar (second floor pew area). We will finalize planning for the January 24 annual meeting and winter social at Stage on Herr and begin planning for the March 15 spring social at the HHA building.
After a brief hiatus, the Events Committee is back and ready to plan for 2013. Join our Events co-chairs Leigh Ann Urban & Jamie Lemon on Thursday December 13 at 6pm at the Midtown Scholar (2nd floor pew area). The agenda will include planning for the upcoming annual meeting and the first social of 2013.
Santa will be making a Midtown appearance from 1-3pm on December 16 at the Pennsylavania National Fire Museum, 1820 N 4th St. Bring the kids to have a free photo taken with Santa. Santa’s elves will be providing hot cocoa and cookies. See flyer.
